Must Try Drinks in Thailand
One of my favorite parts of traveling is trying new food and drinks in each new destination. Thailand provided a lot of new beverage options that are not to be missed. During the day coffee shops hooked us up with the best iced coffees and teas, and at night the night market boasted some of the best fresh fruit smoothies.
Thailand also offers quite a few local beers to cool off in the afternoon. Lagers are abundant and typical style you will find and I must admit with the heat it’s probably the only style that will quench your thirst. Although, if you are looking to drink or purchase alcohol plan within Thailand’s alcohol serving hours. In Thailand you can only be served and/or purchase alcohol between the hours of 11am-2pm and 5pm-midnight (although if you ask a local they maybe able to recommend a local spot that bends the rules).
If these beverage recommendations wet your appetite for some delicious food, don’t miss our post on must try food in Thailand.
Non alcoholic Beverages
Fresh fruit smoothies: Walk around the night market and you will find plenty of fresh fruit smoothie options. This is the perfect after dinner treat and a perfect way to cool off in the Thai heat. The variety is endless with fresh fruit choices such as: guava, mango, kiwi, watermelon, berry, passion fruit, and even durian if you are more daring.
Thai iced tea: That distinct orange color is not natural by any means but the sweet and perfectly spiced black tea is addictive. This is one drink we have tried to re-create ourselves at home and can never seem to get the spice blend just right. If you are craving that delicious Thai iced tea and want to make it at home check out this brand of Thai Iced Tea bags.
Thai green tea: I love an iced green tea or matcha latte. Thailand did not disappoint on their own version of Thai green tea, the secret must be in that sweetened condensed milk. They have the ratios just right! The next best easy to make at home version I have run across is Trader Joe’s Matcha Green Tea Latte powder.
Thai Beer
Singha: Singha which means Lion can also be identified by the depiction of a lion on the can or bottle. This beer is a lager style and is 5% ABV.
Leo: Leo is brewed by the same company that produces Singha and can be identified by the depiction of a leopard on the can or bottle. This beer is also a lager style although I felt this tasted a little more malty than Singha and Chang. This beer similar to it’s counterparts is also 5% ABV.
Chang: Chang which is the Thai word for elephant which the labels for this beer has two elephants facing one another. This lager style beer is also 5% ABV.
Have a favorite Thai drink that I missed? Please share in the comments so others can check them out and I have another reason to go back to Thailand!
