Where to stay when traveling with your pet
Dogs are known as mans best friend, so why wouldn’t you want your canine companion to join you on your next adventure? Personally, we love road trips since we can bring our dogs with us on our travels. There are many reasons you might want to travel with your pet, from not wanting to leave them behind, saving money on boarding them, maybe you four legged friend isn’t a fan of the kennel, or its just too much being separated from their humans (or too much for you to be separated from them). No matter the reason you may not want to leave your dog behind here are some pet friendly hotels and accommodations where they can join you.
Where to stay when traveling with your pet
Finding a pet friendly hotel or place to stay when traveling can sometimes present a bit of a challenge. Luckily there are options for you and your furry friends to get a good nights rest. Here are some options for pet friendly hotels or accommodations that will allow pets.
Short Term Rentals
Personally, we have found staying at a short term rental versus a hotel provide more amenities like being pet friendly. If you are not familiar with Airbnb or VRBO, they are services that help arrange accommodations such as an apartment, condo, home, or room in someone’s house. When using one of these platforms you can specifically filter for pet friendly properties. Some of these properties that are pet friendly may have restrictions, so make sure you read the house rules. As a courtesy we send a message to the host sharing a bit about our dogs and to let them know we are planning on bringing our furry friends. Our dogs particularly love have a yard to run and play when we are able to book a home with a fenced in yard. If you have never stayed with Airbnb set up your account with my link and you can get a discount on Airbnb of $40 off your first stay or $15 towards an Airbnb experience worth $50 or more.
Pet Friendly Hotels
Residence Inn by Marriott
The Residence Inn brand of hotels by Marriott are a go-to for us when traveling with our pets. We love Residence Inn not only because they are dog friendly but they also have many other perks and amenities. The rooms at Residence Inn are suites which include a sleeping area, living room space, and full kitchen. The extra space of their suites are nice especially if you are traveling with a larger dog or multiple dogs. Many Residence Inn locations do have restrictions on weight, maximum number to pets per room, additional daily pet rates, and non-refundable pet cleaning fees. While we prefer and have had good experiences staying with our pups at Residence Inn locations across the United States, Marriott does offer other hotels in their brand that are pet friendly. They have over 1,500 pet friendly locations across the United States and more across other countries. Check out their pet friendly search page to help find all the pet friendly properties for your next trip.
Kimpton Hotels
The Kimpton Hotels is a pet friendly boutique hotel by IHG. We love staying at Kimpton Hotels when traveling with our dogs because of how welcoming and accommodating they are to you furry family members. They do not have any additional fees, weight limits, or limit on number of pets. Our puppies also enjoyed all the pets and attention they got while joining us for the nightly social wine hour (pets are welcome). If you are traveling to or through a city with a Kimpton with a pet in tow I would highly recommend checking in. The Dog House
Do you like dogs? Are you a lover of craft beer!? If the answer is “yes” to even just one of those than you definitely need to check out The Dog House by Brew Dog Columbus. This hotel is a craft beer forward boutique hotel located in Canal Winchester, just outside of Columbus, OH. This hotel is connected to the Brew Dog Brewery, which is located on the same property. The rooms are spacious and the select dog friendly rooms offer an outdoor patio space with a few chairs and picnic table, over looking a pond. They have a dog park with a gazebo and fire pits for the humans to kick back and enjoy a beer while the pups play. They also do not have any additional pet fees or restrictions welcoming all beer punks and pups alike. The rooms come equipped with beer fridges and you can even select your favorite brew to be on tap in your room. Brew Dog’s Dog House hotel is the perfect spot to be added to the travel list for all beer loving puppy parents.
Have a favorite spot to stay while traveling with your pet that I missed? Please share in the comments so others can check them out and my dogs and I have another adventure to experience!
