Save Money, Eat In- Lake Como, Italy Edition
One of the best ways my husband and I have learned to save money and calories during our travels is by choosing to eat in. This was an easy choice while visiting Lake Como, Italy because we had an apartment with a fully stocked kitchen, an amazing balcony, and view of the lake. Luckily we were able to find a few great markets which were perfect for helping us prepare the perfect meals for less. I hope this post helps to inspire you to also have a nice relaxing day enjoying a view of Lake Como with a glass of wine in hand.
Won’t have a kitchen during your visit? Don’t forget to hit up these great spots for a bottle of wine (or more) and some tasty snacks, or a light lunch to tide you over until dinner.

This is shop was perfect for our dinner in while visiting Varenna on our honeymoon. They don't have a huge selection so don't except to find a lot of fresh fruits and veggies or anything. We ended up getting meat and cheese tortellini for two people with a small jar of a spicy pepper sauce, which was delicious and a big serving. We also saw a small fridge with a few drink choices and went with two beers. We got everything for under $20 which was a great way to save some extra cash and have a relaxing night in and a home cooked meal.
Before leaving town back to Milan we stopped in and found a package of almond flour fruit cookies which were individually packaged. They were amazing, so delicious and the perfect snack. I still crave them!! This place is worth stopping in.

After a long day of traveling when we arrived in Varenna all we wanted was some wine and snacks. I mean because when in Italy... drink wine or should I say vino.
We walked in and were warmly welcomed by the owner. She spoke Italian, Spanish and English which was helpful as our Italian is not great. She helped us with our wine and food selections with a smile on her face teaching us all the Italian words for everything we bought. We ended up going with a bottle of Red wine, fresh baked bread, spicy marinated olives and some local cheese. It was perfect for snacking on our deck as we overlooked Lake Como! It fed us for a few days and all for around $30. We loved this place so much we went back before we left for some delicious local honey or miele as they say in Italy. Ciao!
Have any favorite spots that I missed? Please share in the comments so others can check them out and I have another reason to go back to Lake Como!
Cheers,
