Bergen, Norway Restaurant Reviews
Eating out in Norway might not be very easy on your wallet although if you find the right spots it’s worth it! On our trip to Bergen, Norway we made a point to eat in as much as we could so we could have a splurge here or there. We made a point of finding places that wouldn’t break the bank like the $140 dollar a person boat tour and 3 course meal recommendation that was made by our Airbnb host (if that’s your style I’d check out Cornelius). I hope this helps you find some more affordable places to check out if visiting the Bergen area.

This place seemed to come from the heavens just at the right time once it started pouring rain on our visit to Bergen. It contained two words in the name number I recognized kaffe= coffee and vin= wine. The perfect place to escape the downpour and warm up.
The seating was nice and cozy with extra table seating in the back and comfy couches, lounge chairs and window bar seating in the front. The prices were decent. My husband got a cappuccino and I went for an americano. We both agreed neither were amazing although it fit the bill to warm us up and allow us to dry off.
I believe this place used to be called "Bergen Kaffebrenneri Vågen" which actually seems to now just be the name of the coffee roasting company that supplies their beans. Nice to hear the beans are locally roasted! Great spot to support local versus the Starbucks on the corner.

Don't tell your kids but I ate reindeer in Norway and it was delicious! If in Bergen this is definitely worth a stop for lunch. It's affordable by Norway standards so that already makes it taste that much better.
My husband got the wild game sausage dog with what they recommend (I don't remember what all was on it) and he liked it. I got the Rudolph... I mean reindeer sausage dog with mustard, lingonberry sauce and fried onions and boy was it good!
They don't have seating so we grabbed our dog right as it started to rain. It only added to the experience as we ducked down an alleyway to stay dry and enjoy our dogs. This is a must do if in the area and looking for an affordable bite to eat. As long as this place is around Santa's fleet is not safe.

My recommendation if you are looking to save a few extra bucks since eating and drinking out in Norway is not cheap, would be to be polite, say "Hei" and then head down the stairs.
A few helpful hints: Ask the bartender for a menu, take a seat and then head back up to the bar to place your order. They have a pitcher of water at the end of the bar with glasses so no need to add an extra expense for bottled water. Remember on Sunday a bar or restaurant is the only spot you will get alcohol so don't think you can grab some beer at the Kiwi or Rema and drink at home/hotel.
I got the herring with lingonberries which sounded weird to me but after the first bite I was sold!! I cleaned the whole plate with ease because it was so good. The prices are affordable compared to other spots in Norway so I assure you the right choice is to go downstairs because the menu and prices are different.
